Some of you may have read this on other forums but to spread it around to those that haven't seen it I will post it here also.
We have just finished our big weekend over here for the 16th Chryslers on the Murray show. The biggest outdoor gathering of Chryslers in the southern hemisphere. Here is my report as per the Australian website.
It was a hot weekend for this years COTM 08. 3 days of very high 30's, ( 39 actually ) and 40 deg on sunday. But what a fantastic weekend.
Friday saw PT's already there from Qld, some arrived from SA, NSW, & Vic. And on sat another one from WA. ( that's another story.)
After a few welcoming drinks ( water of course because of the heat ) we eventually fired up the barbie for a feed and a surprise belated birthday cake for Dot and of course a little firewater to celebrate before the fun and games started.
By 10pm the firewater had helped prepare us for the games to go with our theme for the night, Cowboys & Indians.
3 special horses had been bred for the COTM 08 PT Cup being Mr Ed, Running Bear and Rough Diamond. The supposed object of the race was to have a couple on each horse and race to the other end of the field, pick up a cowboy hat and put it on and also tuck a papoose into the front of the shirt and race to the finish line. Cheating and breaking the rules were to a high degree. The final race was taken out by Dot & Astrid on Mr Ed and pipped The Chief & Gail on Running Bear by a nose on the line with Rough Diamond being finally scratched or better off thrown out for cheating , bribery and any other thing associated with horse racing. The night was finished off with plenty more firewater to celebrate the wins, the losses and the sheer fun of the night. A big thank you to both She devil & Blue Diamond for organising the games giving us all a fun time with plenty of laughs and injuries for some.
Sat morning we had a bbq brekkie before meeting the 2 PT's at the grounds who had entered the Shannons top 10, waited for them to be judged then departed for a nice cruise to Beechworth. Our time spent there was enjoyed by all who wandered around and looked at the variety of locations before returning back to Lavington to our accomodation. We came back with one more PT then we left with.
The best kept secret and the biggest surprise for COTM was still to come for some people on sat afternoon. For the past 2 months an ex Qld member and now a WA member had been secretly organising this trip for him to return to Qld to live but he especially come this way to join us for the weekend. Numerous private msgs, phone calls and even details such as using another name if I was caught in a situation of a phone call from him with others around me. Jim Collins aka Jungle Jim along with us carried this out to perfection arriving in Beechworth before we departed back to Lavington. The look on the Qlder's faces especially was a pleasure to look at. But the biggest surprise was the way we entered him through our accomodation to the absolute surprise of She Devil & Wild Child. Worth being there just for that. Not very often these two are lost for words but this time they were. Welcome Jim and we know he enjoyed himself as much as we did.
Sat night some members went to the Albury Golf Club, others had bbq and some just had an easy takeaway. It was early to bed sat night compared to friday night but not forgetting we also had a birthday cake for Daphne squeezed in there somewhere. general chit chat around the tables and only a small amount to drink ( of course. )
Sunday was a very early start for the bbq brekkie this time in the dark because of the timer switch not activating the yard lights. But no worries the NSW Cruise Controller Geoff and our ever trustworthy quick thinking Dot were quick to jump in with a solution using the wind up torch to shed light on the barbie to get the brekkie cooked to the way we all like it.
We departed to the Sumison Gardens for the main day of the weekend. We had 24 PT's displayed which attracted a lot of attention and lot of lookers. There was also a Grand Voyager displayed with us but no details can be given just yet or any pics.
We beleive there were over 550 cars displayed as no exact final figure was given.
This year the PT Trophy category was changed to Best PT & a runner up.
Congratulations Deb ( She Devil ) on the Best PT and also congratulations to Phil & Melinda with ( FLMDPT ) on being runner up.
A special mention to FLMDPT again as he gained a place in the Shannons Top 10 for the 2nd year in a row. Not bad for our beloved PT's with all these other cars entered.
When you go to the events pages when Carl puts it on for me please take note of the few words I have put down below
( Ignore the date on the pics as I had to do a quick battery change and didn't have time to reset the camera.
A couple of pics to finish off the report.
