Hey Everyone,
I hate the huge wheel gap the PT has at stock height. It just sits too high for my taste, especially the back end. Here is a pic to give you a good idea.
So I did some research looking for a good way to resolve this little issue, and after looking at several options, I decided to go with the Goldline Super Slammer Kit which is a 2.75" / 3.25 Kit which is supposed be the lowest kit available, remove the Factory Rake, and level the PT out. The problem I had was after installing the Springs, they did not level the car, and I still wound up with a 2" gap in the rear which I hated! Here is where it sat after intalling the Goldline Super Slammers.
So I wound up one day visiting with a good friend of mine who used to build Off Road Racing Trophy Trucks, and specialized in CAD designing and fabricating custom suspension, and still has access to all of the way cool high tech machinery he used to use to build componants including a Coil Machine. So long story short, we measured out where I wanted to try to get my Ride to sit, and we went to work making a full one off custom set of springs which when it was all said and done, turned out to be a full 3"/5" drop. When it was all said and done, the body sat perfectly level at 4" from the ground on all four corners, and 3 1'2" under both front, and back bumpers, giving it a total of 1/2" more in front, and a full 2" in back lower than the lowest kit available! Here is a pic of where it sat after installing the new custom springs.
The front sat 1/2" off of the front tires, but the way in which it was set up, the suspension would not allow the body to go any lower so their was no rubbing issues. After debuting the new Springs at the big Annual PT River Run in Laughlin NV, their were so many people asking for more information, and inquiring about a set that both Steve and I wound up making a couple more sets to sell to a coupl of really close friends who were begging for them! The first set went on my Ride, and a second identical set went to another guy from up here in Los Angeles, After the first two sets were done, by sheer luck, the Race Driver Steve used to work for had some left over Titanium Alloy Mix material used to make the extreamly expensive custom Race Springs that go on the Trucks. The material is very, very expensive, and the guy gave it to Steve cheap as a friend, so we decided to go ahead and make two high performance springs which were lighter, and more agile than the first two due mostly to weight reduction.
Here is a couple of Pic's of my Springs in comparison to the Stock Springs.
Fronts:
Backs
The only downside to these Springs, and why their are only four Sets in existence so far is due to the fact that unlike big Companies who get breaks on buying bulk materials, and have a full production shop, we have to pay ful price for the materials, and labor, and by the time everything is all said and done, the Springs cost $348.90 which is not that bad compared to what you get as the materials used normally cost over $800 for the Titanium Mix, but its still more than most people are willing to pay for Springs, which is why their are only four Sets in existence in the World today.
And so that, is the Story of my Custom Springs which have now been Dubbed as the Candydrops. If anyone ever might be interested in having a set made, please feel free to contact be anytime!
You all go easy, and I will catch ya later.
