Hey the Tom,
I thank you Sir! I have actually been mixing my own chemicals for years, and have thought about maybe trying to sell some of my chemicals for several years now, but have just never gotten up the nerve to offer any to the public.
Every time I think about going for it, I get visions of this old TV Commercial where thes guys were sitting in front of a Computer screen just after going online with an Internet Business. They got all excited after their first order for whatever they were selling came in, then a few more orders and they started cheering, then all of the sudden the orders shot up to something like 10,000 within like a minute, and the room got really quiet. Hahaha In the words of the great Homer Simpson...Doh! ;D
Actually in reality, the thought of me having my own Products on the market would be way cool, but a lot of the chemicals I mix are very expensive due to what goes into them, and most people I know would never in a million years send that much money on them.
As an example, my Wax I make is made up of 68% pure #1 White "Ivory" Carnuba Paste mixed with Banana Oil, Bees Wax, and Solvents, along with some other secret ingredients which I can't mention here.
Of all of these ingredients, it the #1 White Carnuba which is the expensive part. Most affordable Waxes on the market are made with a high content of #2 Yellow Carnuba as their key ingredient. The difference is Wax with #2 Yellow Carnuba can range from $15 - $20 for a fairly good Wax. A Wax mixed with #1 White Carnuba is usually in the neighborhood of around $180 - to $560 per can, and those are on the cheaper side of the spectrum.
I used to be an Authorized Dealer for a Swiss Company called Swissvax back when I had my high end full service Detail Center located in the expensive part of North County in San Diego.
Swissvax sells Waxes with various mixtures of the same White Carnuba which have a price range of $180 - well over $2890 per can,
www.detailersdomain.com/swissvaxcarcare.aspxand Zymol, who makes that blue liquid wax you see in the Automotive Dept at Walmart, also makes some pretty fancy waxes as well.
One is Zymol's Royale Glaze with a cost of $8416.00 a can,
www.zymol.com/zymolroyaleglaze44oz.aspxOr Zymol's now famous Solaris Glaze which is the current most expensive Automotive Wax in the World at the current time at a cost of "and this is not a typo" $50,003.00, but of course does come with a nice crystal case, and solid I believe 24 carrot gold sthingy for mixing the Product, and if you can confirm you are using the Product for personal use, and not for commercial gain as a Professional Detailer, then you get exclusive Lifetime refills, as you do once you reach a certain level of Product from Swissvax as well.
www.autosupermart.com/store/shop/zymolsolaris.html Anyways, getting back on track here, if I were to put my Wax on the open Market, it would have a cost of around $220.00 due to both materials to make it, and higher cost of the materials due to small quantities. Otherwise, I actually have 4 canisters sitting padlocked up in a small custom mini refrigerator down in my root cellar right now along with my cans of Swissvax Insignis, Swissvax Mystery, Swissvax Devine, full line of Dodo Juice Products, Wolfgang Füzion Carnauba Polymer Estate Wax, and a host of other Chemicals in my personal collection which all must be maintained at an ambient temperature of approximately 36degrees when not in use to preserve the chemicals.
Since most PT People I know can not afford a $220.00 wax, I pretty much have decided against offering my privately mixed products to the Public. I have tried to mix Wax using other less expensive chemicals like #2 Yellow Carnuba but the wax is too soft for my solvents and tends to turn out mushy and though I have played with the stuff several times, I just can't seem to come up with a good combination as of yet, but I am going to keep at it till I get a better formulation down and just might put it out their one of these days hopefully with a lot of persistence, and a little bit of luck. ;D
Anyways, you go easy, and I will catch you later.
