Hey Everyone,
I have seen this done on another Forum, and thought it was pretty cool, so I figured I might give it a try here as well.
Originally I studied Automotive Paint and Body in school, and worked a few years doing mostly paint work in a collision canter in San Diego CA..
Then I went on to own and operate a very successful high end automotive detail center out of Poway CA which specialized in working one on one with large Automotive Dealerships, and eventually became Certified by Corporate Honda, Dodge, Chrysler, and Toyota, and worked directly with the Manufacturers on developing training programs, and methods to do mass production detailing while still being able to conform to an acceptable level of quality.
In 2000, I sold my Shop to a good friend and Colleague, in order to pursue a long time dream of joining up with my Father and drive a truck long distance. I received my CDL, and went to work for Fed Ex where I worked until 2004 when one night I got dispatched while my Father was not able to go, so I was assigned a temporary co-driver. We took off late at night, and my new co-driver decided he would take the first shift, so I went to the bunk to get some sleep before it was my turn to drive. Unfortunately some time around midnight, my co -driver accidentally fell asleep at the wheel and rolled the truck. I wound up with two skull fractures, a severe concussion, and two disks in my low back ruptured while a third disk fractured into three parts. I eventually recovered to the point where I can get around fairly well, but will never drive a truck again ever.
Back when I had my Detail Shop, I had a very nice Client who made his living off buying old run down vehicles, having them restored to perfection, and reselling them at Auction. I used to do most all of the detailing for this client, and also did a good deal of the design work, paint and body restoration work, and some interior work as well.
I now work exclusively for my former client helping him do all of the design work, choosing color schemes, wheels, interiors, and so on, then do all of the paint and body work, interior restoration work, recovering seats, door panels, chrome work, sandblasting and powder coat work, glass work, and anything, and everything in between. I truly enjoy what I do, as well as trying to guide, and answer any questions for any of my Cruiser Friends as well on any cosmetic questions they may have whenever I can.
I have built everything from street rods to classics, to one off custom creations, and can handle pretty much anything cosmetic without much of any problem.
I enjoy working with these cars big time, and it is one of those jobs where I can take my time, and work at my own pace with my given physical limitations, and still do what I love to do.
Anyways, that is what I do for a living. Now its your turn. What do you do?
Go easy, and I'll catch you later.
